Starting early in Year 12 is advisable, as schools base their UCAS predicted grades on Year 12 performance. Tuition in Year 13 focuses more on exam technique and closing gaps.

Yes, an A-Level tutor is absolutely worth it if a student needs help with specific subjects, lacks confidence, or is struggling with exam techniques and really needs to achieve a certain grade to secure a place for Higher Education. The effectiveness of a tutor depends on the student's individual needs, their own motivation, and the quality of the tutor - this is the exact reason why we only use Qualified Teachers at CTG.

Yes and no. If your child is looking into tuition at the start of the school year, tuition once a week will make a noticeable difference to their confidence with a subject. However, as you approach exam season it would sensible to invest in more frequent tuition to make their revision and exam preparation as productive as possible.
A-levels are graded from A to E* for a pass, with U (Unclassified) representing a fail. Unlike GCSEs, there is no "Grade 9-1" numerical scale. Each grade corresponds to a specific number of UCAS Tariff Points, which universities use to set their entry requirements:

Predicted grades are typically set by your teachers between June of Year 12 and September of Year 13. These are based on "hard evidence," including:
- Year 12 mock exam results.
- Class tests and internal assessments throughout the year.
- Your general attitude to learning and consistency. Most schools finalise these in the first few weeks of Year 13 so they can be included in your UCAS application before the October (Oxbridge/Medicine) or January deadlines.
Schools have a professional responsibility to provide "aspirational yet realistic" predictions. If your predicted grade is lower than your target university’s requirement, most schools will only increase it if you can provide new evidence of working at a higher level—such as a high score in a September "re-sit" mock or significantly improved performance in early Year 13 assignments.
