Zaki completed A-levels in Biology, English and Psychology in 2007. He then went on to study BSc Psychology at the University of Leeds from 2007-2010. Having completed this and moved back to London, he continued in the field to complete an MA in Education: Culture, Language and Identity at the prestigious Goldsmiths College, University of London. During this time he began working as a teaching assistant at a secondary school in Bermondsey, helping in delivering psychology teaching to the new intake of sixth form students.
He finished his Masters degree in 2013 and that same year went on to begin a PGCE in Social Science at the Institute of Education, UCL which is widely recognised as a world leader in education and the social sciences. During this time Zaki also gained specific training in ‘Philosophy for Children’ and ‘Mindfulness’, both of which he regularly continues to practise today.
Having had two very successful placements and excellent outcomes, Zaki gained employment at Graveney School, Tooting, teaching post-16 psychology. The school has been recognised as having one of the largest sixth form centres that is attached to a school in the country and was rated ‘outstanding’ by Ofsted in 2016. Zaki’s current interests are developing pedagogy through technology and he regularly posts revision videos on the YouTube channel ‘graveneypsychology’ as well as supporting the departmental Twitter.
Additionally, Zaki is an examiner for AQA Psychology in the summer months so has gleaned insight into the exams process and what exactly the examiners are looking for in top band answers. Zaki has tutored for four years and has seen his students through some excellent results by using multimedia, focussed assessment, engagement with exam papers, mark schemes and examiners reports and the development of essay plans which students have stated they find incredibly useful as a revision tool.
