After completing his A-levels in Biology, Chemistry and Spanish in 2001, Matthew began his B.Sc in Zoology with Marine Zoology at the University of Wales, Bangor. He completed a research project in the Canary Islands and, together with his finals, graduated with a 1st Class Honours. Matthew continued his researching career and began an M.Sc in Marine Science from the same university in association with a marine research group in Quebec, Canada.
After achieving a Distinction and publishing his M.Sc thesis, Matthew worked with a number of leading marine researchers around the world including Scotland, Canada and Kenya. His growing passion for teaching called him back to UK shores in 2009 where Matthew began his PGCE at King’s College, London. His first teaching post was at Epsom and Ewell High School, which, in 2010 was elected the 8th most improved school in the UK. He was quickly promoted to Head of Year 10 and 11, where he was responsible for the GCSE results of 150 students.
Matthew and his dedicated team were successful in securing record results for the school in 2013 resulting in the school being placed 2nd in Surrey for Value Added. Since then Matthew has worked in an SLE (Specialist Leader in Education) capacity and has worked closely with schools such as The Matthew Arnold School to raise the teaching and learning within Science.
